My favorite book of all time is High Fidelity by Nick Hornby. By favorite, I don’t mean one of those books you enjoy so much that you read it more than once. I mean that I started reading it in the nineties and never stopped. Literally. Like a bible, it’s always on my bedside table and I continuously gobble it up from cover to cover. Or religiously digest a few carefully selected episodes before I go to sleep. Everything about it is engaging, disturbing, hilarious or spot-on – about life, love, music and human nature. The wording is so sharp and witty that I don’t know whether to laugh out loud or slice my wrist open in the sincere grief of not having written it myself. To be honest, the plot is nothing special. Yet it covers everything that really matters. And to me, that is pure genius.
